In this Underwater Photography Tutorial, we have been sent a great personal review for the Fuji FinePix XP30 Waterproof Digital Camera by Aleksa Simovic, owner of CameraDigitalWaterproof.net…
“I just bought a Fuji Waterproof XP30 digital camera as a small and compact camera for everyday use. I do have two semi-professional digital cameras, but this one looked small enough to carry it around with me all the time. And since I do travel a lot I thought that Fuji XP30 digital cameras’ GPS Geo-tagging function will make my pics tagging faster and easier.
That brought us to my first disappointment with Fuji XP30: I still haven’t figured it out how to tag the pictures with real places names, and I’m not the newbie when it comes to waterproof digital cameras. All I got was the list with the geographical locations (latitudes and longitudes). On the positive side, the quality of the pictures taken with the Fuji XP30 Digital Camera is really good, even when used as idiot camera with automatic settings.
If the GPS location problem was the only one I would say that this Fuji digital camera is really worth the money I paid for it ( about 150$), but there is even bigger problem: the battery of the XP30 digital camera runs really fast, in the matter of hours. You can make it last a little longer if you switch off the GPS location searching, but you will still need extra battery if you want to use it for more than 4-5 hours. To make the problem even worse, the Fuji XP30 digital camera switched on accidentally in my pocket more than once and battery was already empty even before I tried to take my first picture.
The good thing about Fuji XP30, when used for outdoor activities, is that this digital camera is really solid and it probably won’t break the first time it accidentally slip from your hand and hits the floor. In fact, I had several incidents and I can’t spot the single scratch on it. For waterproof part, I only tested Fuji XP30 digital camera in the sea up to 2 meters and under the shower (to wash the salt off) and it was fine. The size of LCD display is 2.7” which is good enough, but their promise of anti-reflective display which can be used even in the bright sunlight proved not to be true.
Auto-focus function and image stabilization of Fuji XP30 digital camera for taking the picture of moving objects worked really well. I tried it when taking the pics of my kids riding their bikes and every time the picture was well focused and sharp.
Taking the videos with Fuji XP30 digital camera is easy and the quality of the video is really good. But I had major problems with the audio when taking the videos. First of all, I couldn’t transfer the audio. Then, after spending lots of time playing with the different function on the Fuji XP30 and on the provided software the audio did turned up, but it was completely out of sync. To make it even more annoying, while zooming in or out while recording a video you can hear the zoom action in the movie later. I should also mention that the Nikon AW100 is also nice waterproof camera.
In conclusion, if you want to use Fuji XP30 digital camera for daily use or you’re having the problem with accidentally damaging your cameras it is probably worth the money you’ll pay for it. But if you don’t have the opportunity to constantly charge the batteries you better look for something else.”
